Another Big App on CarPlay: Claude Now Available for All Users

Another big app on CarPlay is here: Claude is now available for all users after Anthropic's chatbot reached general availability on Apple's in-car platform. Drivers first spotted the icon weeks ago, but the CarPlay release has moved from a quiet preview to a rollout anyone with a compatible iPhone can launch from the home screen.

There is no official Anthropic or Apple announcement. At first glance, Claude works from the CarPlay home screen like the other chatbots already on Apple's phone projection platform, including ChatGPT and Perplexity. Apple still limits third-party assistants: you have to tap the app icon to start. Wake-up phrases are not available for third-party apps, so Siri remains the only chatbot you can summon without looking at the display.

Once you launch Claude on CarPlay, you get a hands-free conversation screen and can keep talking without touching the glass. You can resume chats you already started or begin a new one. The app shows visual effects while you speak, so you know the conversation is underway. After that, Claude on CarPlay does much of what it does on iPhone: it answers prompts with audio and lets you continue naturally as long as the app stays running.

Apple added support for third-party chatbots in iOS 26.4 earlier this year. Siri is still limited for hands-free AI, but the next-generation Siri is expected to go live with iOS 27 this month. That Siri will use Gemini, Google's AI assistant, and will support a wake-up phrase so you do not have to tap an icon. Those AI features are already in iOS 27 beta builds. Apple will hold a press event next week for the new iPhone generation and iOS 27, where AI-powered Siri is expected to get a lot of stage time.
