Migrating from Agents to AI by Zapier

Zapier is migrating from Agents to AI by Zapier so agentic workflows run inside the Zap editor instead of the standalone site at agents.zapier.com. Because Agents lived outside the core platform, you could not combine an agent with Zapier's full library of triggers, actions, filters, branching logic, and automation history. AI by Zapier puts tool calling, AI reasoning, and autonomous task execution into a single step on the same infrastructure as every other Zap.

After the move, you can mix agentic steps that reason and act, AI steps for summarization or classification, and deterministic native steps in one Zap. Migration does not restructure anything: the converted agent still runs as one AI by Zapier step until you pull a tool call into a dedicated native step. You can pick Standard, Advanced, or Premium model tiers, and turn on Require approval before running for writes while leaving reads unattended.

AI by Zapier uses Zapier's task-based pricing, so there is no separate Agents subscription. A run that exceeds 75 tasks pauses for review. Every agentic run is recorded in Zap history with the tools called, model tier, and task count. Admins can require approval before publishing Zaps that contain AI steps, enable or disable tool calling at the account level, and block models. Organizations that previously had Agents blocked will have tool calling off by default.

AI by Zapier with looping tool calls became generally available on July 15, 2026. Enterprise trial customers have until August 15, 2026 to migrate; after that, trials expire and accounts convert to a free Agents account. Zapier converts each agent into a Zap with a native trigger and one AI step that keeps the original prompt, tools, and reasoning. Chat-triggered on-demand agents have no direct equivalent yet; a webhook can start the same workflow. Agent-to-agent calling should move to Sub-Zap by Zapier. Knowledge sources and org-wide Bring Your Own Model are not supported yet. After you publish the Zap, turn off the original agent so both do not fire.
